January 2006 - A new start....
WOW...so it has been a while since we updated this blog! Have you missed us? Let's start at the very beginning shall we?
January 2006...well, I started work officially as an arts administrator for Magicana a registered charity dedicated to promoting magic as a performance art. It was a role that I didn't intend on taking but the offer became too tempting and I was persuade to join.
The first few months proved to be a tough transition especially as I finished up other work on the side ...then the worst thing ever happened...my laptop got stolen (out of our truck)! I was bringing it back and forth to my new job downtown Toronto and was pretty tried...stopped off for something in Chinatown for a second. But then again, that's all it takes right? And get this...this was the one day that I brought in my BACK UP harddrive...yes, they took that, too. Sigh. That is when you really realize that life can be cruel.
Well, after getting over the initial shock I managed to rebuild a lot of my database and slowly my life. It's amazing to realize how much you keep on your laptop! My entire business, my contacts my records, my accounting...everything from A to Z was on that (NEW) little baby. Life goes on.
I tell you though, it's quite humbling to realize how much of your life is locked into technology. And, even scarier, it's AMAZING to see how spread out your data really is! I was able to reconstruct my immediate contact databases more quickly that I had anticipated and realized thanks to multiple copies, personal data assistant data and old computers (thank god, computers that my family a) owns and b) still has the data resident on the computer!)
Speaking of family...Omar who spends time in Mexico and Europe came to visit us in January...so we had to make him a special treat: chocolate molten lava cakes! Ah, nothing like chocolate to make you forget about the worries of the world! We had a BBQ and sent Suley out in is parka to do the grilling! What a fabulous meal! That's it for now...stay tuned for next month's adventures...
